SpywareBlaster is a good proactive tool to stop spyware.

The other programs that I mentioned clean up spyware/adware. This program stops it from being installed.

Everything I have recommended is FREE to use and download. Stay away from the spyware software that sells online... there are much better freeware solutions that do a great job of detecting and cleaning spyware/adware.
